I'm so sorry.....

but it needs to be done once every year.  I spent an indecent amount of time going back and forth between smiling faces and serious faces, and finally decided to just post it.

Anyways, HAPPY HOLIDAYS EVERYONE!  (Elf yourself, NCIS style!)

Fever = weird dreams

First it was that all of the creatures from the abyss I'm studying in Oceanography were suddenly on land and flying through the air like they were swimming and all of these reporters and stuff were asking me why it was happening and how and I'm all like "I've just finished one semester of oceanography for my geology major I don't even know what half of them are!!!" but they kept asking questions and getting angry because they thought I was being coy and playing at oblivious or something when I really had no clue.

Then there was a really good one where Gibbs was Emperor Hadrian and Tony was beloved boy concubine Antinous from 110ADish and Tony was a bit older than Antinous actually was but it was inspired by THIS PICTURE (not family or work safe) and needless to say it was a hot dream.  I'm tempted to write the fic to it. :D  McGee could be a favorited servant boy and Ziva could be hired by Gibbs to be Tony's bodyguard and we can even have Cate as Gibbs' bethroved wife who is jealous of Tony at first but gets along like gangbusters later on.

I really want to put that universe together now.  Oh Gods what have I done!

The Thanksgiving day parade was just.......

Macy's Thanksgiving day parade was just RICK ROLLED.  By the man himself!  They had a float with some stupid puppets singing their kiddy song for about 10 seconds, then freaking Rick Astley popped out of a door on the float, the music changed, and I promptly lost it.  Looked like he was too!

Wow.  I think I got more amusement out of that than was really warranted, but.... HEE!

My Grandfather just died today.

My Granddad just died today.  This morning around 8am.  He just gave up, didn't want to keep fighting when they didn't know exactly why he couldn't breathe.  After he beat lung cancer.  I knew it was coming, now I'm just worried about grandma.  We were in a similar position last month or so with her, but they put in a pacemaker, and she seems better than she has in years.  But they were both reaching 80 years old, and now she's alone.  She can't take care of a household like she used to, so she has to either move in with someone or go to a nursing home.

I saw my Grandpa in the hospital on Saturday.  He seemed alright, actually, but so so tired.  They had one of those breathing treatment masks on that push air into your lungs, trying to get them to clear out.  Yesterday, he took it off and threw it against the wall and told them no more.

My Mom is handling it the worst out of everyone.  Which I don't understand.  But whatever.

I'm so glad that the last time I saw him, when I left, I went back into the room after leaving and gave him a kiss on the forehead.  I honestly thought I was going to see him alive again, today actually, but I can't tell you how happy I was that I went back instead of just saying "bye, I'll see you Monday".

I feel weird.

I love my dog.

I love it when she SNAPS her tether like it was made of straw.

I love it even more when she hunts until she finds the smelliest pile of something and then ROLLS AROUND IN IT.

I'm just tickled when she comes homes after and looks at me, tail wagging a mile an hour, like she's saying "look at what I did!  Aren't I clever!  Aren't you PROUD!!!"

And it just darling when she refuses to go anywhere near the bathroom, so I have to carry her in, transferring the stink TO MY CLOTHES.

I'm so overcome with LOVE right now I want to give her a really, really, REALLY TIGHT HUG.  AROUND HER NECK.

-_-

Well.....

My car crapped out on the way, but I eventually got to vote.  :D  Yays for early voting!  It was a half an hour wait here in Canton, OH.  Not too bad, but the office was cramped and the line went up stairs and around corners.  And standing room only, for sure.  Had no problems with the touch screen, and I double checked the print out to make sure nothing hinky happened.

Six more days until this crap is over.  I cannot wait.  I'm interested in it for sure, but also refuse to answer the phone now.  We get a call here about once every two hours from one side or the other.  And we have a rough representative race here as well.

Now off to 538.com to check up on today's info!

OOOoohhhh it IS getting to be about that time of year.....

for Christmas cards!!!!  EEEE!!!!!  If you want one, just comment here and I'll start making up my list.  Especially if you're overseas (from America), it's always a good idea to send them out extra early, so don't wait too long, K? :D

SCREENED COMMENTS ON THIS POST.

Oh, and any Canton folk- I have 2 extra tickets to see Rob Corddry Monday night (27th) at Kent State Stark.  (He's formerly from The Daily Show with Jon Stewart, back when it was hilarious and not just mildly funny).  His show is called "An Evening With America’s New Best Friend" and it should be quite funny.  Free tix. :D He's in the new movie "W." about George Bush, which I want to see, but I'm so sick of politics it'll probably be a while before I see it.  Again, screened comments, let me know if you want to go.

Oh, for those of you who commented when my Grandma was sick, thanks so much.  You all helped a bunch.  ::hugs::

Of course my brother went in three days after she went out because he couldn't breathe, and was there for 3 1/2 days, but hey.  his skanky girlfriend can coo over him if she wants.  He's an idiot to have waited so long to see a doctor.  Yes, I'm a caring sister like that.  (Don't look at me like that, I went and got him sweats to wear and non-hospital food to eat and brought him home.)

Wow, I blathered on there, didn't I?  My bad.  How are you doing?

Interesting Article...

The word Maverick came from a Texas family with a long history in politics......  On the progressive side.  The article below explains why McCain using the word "Maverick" as a moniker is kind of ironic, in an Alanis Morrisette way.

Oh, and an 82 year old Texan, Ms. Maverick, a descendant of the family, tells us exactly what she thinks of him using her famous last name as a catch phrase for himself.

I love this 82 year old woman, and I wanna be adopted by this family....

I gotted 3 hours of sleep today before my Mom needed me to take her to the hospital for her visit to Grandma.  I'm grumpypants. :(

She is going into surgery tomorrow.  They are going to look around, but they are decently sure that they will at least put a pacemaker in.  I've been there, done that, so I was able to answer some questions for my Aunt before the doctor even stopped by.  The whole family is weary because of what I went through, though.  I hated the damn thing, but then again when they gave me mine they broke a wire when they put it in so it never worked properly anyways.  She has better doctors so hopefully the outcome will be better.  I had to tell her that no, she wouldn't have to give up her microwave. :D  They've improved.

But man!  Her heart rate when she was sleeping was upper 30's, and irregular.  Never before had loud, nails on chalkboard snoring been a comfort.  I was scared to take my eyes of of her!  But she slept better with someone there so she looked better this morning.  Good, she'll need the strength.

Brach's candy corn is back!!  Straight up sugar rush!  Yeah baby!

I am sitting in my maternal Grandmother's hospital room trying to type quietly.  She has congenital heart failure, most likely caused from a previously surgically cleared artery being blocked again.  They are talking catherization and splints, but don't know if she's strong enough.  Turns out she's been out of breath for a month or so, passed out last week (but refused treatment when the paramedics came), and had asked my Grandpa to sleep in her bed with her for the past week because we think she knew something was wrong.

Last night she was left alone here and got a little worse, so I volunteered to stay tonight with her.  I got here at 8pm, she was already asleep, but her heartbeat was irregular (after months spent in the hospital due to my own heart issues, I learned, and was taught, how to read a bit of the monitor), so I walk up to get a closer look, and there is a freaking defibrillator sitting there.

No one was here when I got here, so I asked hot!nurse!guy WTFdude and he said he didn't know for sure but the earlier staff probably just wanted a portable EKG strip from her and used that to get it.  WHILE 2 PORTABLE EKG MACHINES WERE SITTING LITERALLY 5 FEET FROM HER ROOM DOOR, IN A LITTLE ALCOVE?!?

Yeah, no.  I think they didn't expect me to come.  And now I'm flipping out.

Of course, I'm probably just flipping out over something little, but yeah that tripped me out a bit.  She's probably my favoritist family member, all 1/2 straight up Sioux Indian with the temper to go with it.

I'm here until 8am.  Going to be a long night folks.

When you see this, post a SGA quote.

Sheppard:  By brisk you mean... far?
McKay:  And by walk I mean run.

Not exact because I don't have my DVD's but I love that whole exchange. :D

How is he getting away with this?

Bush wants to 'relax' the Endangered Species Act.  Once again money comes before the health of our planet.  Does anybody honestly expect for the individual agencies to "err on the side of caution" when money is on the line?  Really?

Oh, this pisses me off.  And of course the timing is just right so that it slides in before November, but is too late to cause him any more real problems.  I'm sure he has some friends with construction projects that were denied the go-ahead because of the law, and now he's doing them favors.  It's so obvious.

And I want Obama to win, I really do, but just because he's better than McCain.  He's still a politician, can and will be influenced by his own self-interest and his friends, but at least he won't be so freakin' brazen and cocksure about it and will probably have some boundaries.  Jesus.

RECS

I've got some psych fic recs for you.

Watching You by Windscryer.  Author's description:  Once upon a time Shawn Spencer wanted to be just like his father. Sometimes Henry wishes he hadn't.  Father/son angst.  Yays.

Crushed Pineapple Chunks by Collegekid2006.  115 themed snippets and short stories.  And still going!  Actually, all of collegekid2006's stuff is good.  Very talented author.

What Was Will Never Be by Thinktink2.  Future fic, but sooo good.  Shawn/Juliet, which I usually find too saccharine, but it works here because it's not the focus.  Don't let it scare you away.

Shafted from MusicalLuna1.  Author calls it "shameless Shawn whump" and yeah, that's pretty much what it is.  'Only Shawn could injure himself whilst searching a cordoned off building with a faction of S.B.P.D. officers.'

Happy reading!

Quick question....

Anyone know of an up to date, recent how-to guide to vidding?  I've found several, but in ALL OF THEM at least  one crucial link is broken.  I've spent the past three hours going back and forth and it's not going well to even just get started.

Thanks!
